Green Town Policy
1. Does your town have an established (i.e., proposed, debated and passed) comprehensive environmental policy?
The adoption of a comprehensive environmental policy is literally "Step One" in creating a green town. An effective policy announces the town's commitment to action, and sets out its goals and implementation strategies. It also provides a focus for the efforts of local agencies and departments, as well as school systems, community groups, business organizations and individual activists.
The policy should recognize that issues of climate change, sustainability, environmental health and economic well-being are inextricably linked, and promote the concept that success in addressing these issues depends on the cooperative effort of all sectors of the community.
