Municipal options for sustainable energy are rapidly expanding as new technologies are developed and new companies come to market with solutions.

The Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to moving renewable energy resources into the marketplace. IREC emphasizes education and outreach, stakeholder coordination, technical assistance, workforce development, the adoption and implementation of uniform guidelines and standards, consumer protection and building networks to share experience and information.

The Green Power Network provides detailed information about  green power companies, new green products, consumer protection issues, and governmental policies affecting green power markets. Information on green power product offerings is available by state, and organized according to the three markets for green power: utility green pricing (regulated electricity markets); green power marketing (competitive electricity markets); and renewable energy certificates (available nationwide). The website is operated and maintained by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Re-energize America is a diverse coalition of concerned individuals and organizations that together reflect the fast-emerging national consensus that America must reduce both its oil dependence and global warming pollution by harnessing clean, renewable energy sources and improving the energy efficiency of vehicles, buildings and industry.

The American Solar Energy Society (ASES) is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing energy efficiency and the use of solar energy and other sustainable technologies in the U.S. ASES has 23 chapters across the country.

The Northeast Sustainable Energy Association is the Northeast’s leading organization of professionals working in sustainable energy, whole-systems thinking and green technologies. NESEA advances the adoption and practical application of sustainable, low-carbon-energy practices. They maintain a comprehensive list of "clean energy" companies and organizations at www.nsea.org/energy/links.
